Battery Systems and Charging Infrastructure

Building the Backbone of Electric Mobility

The success of compact electric trucks in Latin America depends on efficient battery technology and reliable charging infrastructure. Between 2022 and 2025, regional investments in these areas reached USD 1.1 billion, according to CAF–Development Bank of Latin America and the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE). More than 3,200 public and semi-private charging points have been installed across the region, improving operational continuity for urban fleets.

Brazil leads the market with new lithium-ion battery assembly lines supported by BYD Brasil and Weg Mobility, both contributing to the national Rota 2030 program. Mexico’s Nuevo León cluster has become a regional hub for energy storage innovation, where companies such as Enel X and JAC Motors develop fast-charging solutions adapted to compact vehicles. Meanwhile, Chile’s Estrategia Nacional de Electromovilidad prioritizes the deployment of fast-charging corridors connecting Santiago, Valparaíso, and Concepción.

Moreover, new battery technologies are extending fleet autonomy. Advances in solid-state and LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistries allow electric trucks to operate longer cycles with minimal degradation. As a result, total cost of ownership (TCO) has decreased by nearly 18 percent, improving the financial attractiveness of fleet electrification.

In addition, regional utilities are integrating smart-grid solutions to support large-scale charging. Partnerships between Enel, Eletrobras, and CFE are enabling dynamic load management, ensuring energy efficiency and stability. This synergy between energy and transport sectors represents a milestone in Latin America’s clean mobility ecosystem.
