Education Landscape and Access

Panama’s education system includes over 3,000 public and private institutions. Literacy exceeds 95 percent, and secondary enrollment is expanding steadily. The National Education Transformation Plan 2030 promotes digital access, bilingual education, and STEM training.

More than 85 percent of schools have internet connectivity, supported by government and private-sector programs.

Higher Education and Research

Panama’s universities play a growing role in innovation. The University of Panama, Technological University of Panama (UTP), and Latin University collaborate with regional research centers on renewable energy, logistics, and biotechnology.

Public–private initiatives encourage applied research and patent registration, connecting academia to industrial development.

Technical and Vocational Training

Workforce training is a priority. The National Institute for Professional Training (INADEH) provides programs in logistics, automation, and digital management. In 2024, more than 70,000 workers received technical certification.

These programs enhance labor productivity and ensure better alignment between skills supply and market demand.

Digital Skills and Inclusion

The Digital Panama Program aims to expand ICT literacy and prepare youth for remote work and entrepreneurship. Coding and robotics courses are now included in public education curricula.

Partnerships with technology companies support innovation labs and cloud training initiatives. These investments are closing the digital divide and expanding job opportunities.

Strategic Outlook 2025–2035

Between 2025 and 2035, Panama’s education and human capital agenda will focus on digital transformation, inclusion, and global competitiveness. Stronger cooperation between academia and industry will drive innovation, while digital training will enhance resilience and adaptability.

By investing in education and skills, Panama is developing a workforce capable of leading its next phase of economic diversification.
